Design a deck you can share with your friends. This was a DIY project I really enjoyed. Start with a wood frame and a simple pattern. End with an amazing addition to your home. Plan a deck for a party and then enjoy it every day.
This unique leaf-pattern deck received honorable mention in the June 2018 Feeney Inc Photo Gallery. Feeney is the great company that makes cable rail kits for all types of architectural projects (interior, exterior, commercial and residential).
This deck was inspired by an Elm leaf provided by a tree near where the deck now stands.
Start with a simple pattern. It could be a bird, a musical note, a religious symbol, or an automotive emblem. Personalize your deck project and create a unique entrance to your backyard!
Trex Transcend® decking and Feeney CableRail® were used to create a simple, bold deck that was fun to build. The railing posts were made of cedar with Trex decking along the top. This deck is extra durable and never requires re-finishing. After four years, it still looks the same.
Feeney CableRail® is so cool! I wanted to be able to still see the backyard through the railing of my deck. This product is simple and beautiful. Simply drill straight holes through your deck posts and route the stainless steel cable through. Decorative end caps hide the hardware. It looks even better than I thought it would!

An estimated 90,000 plastic grocery bags were recycled to create the material for this deck
A quick scan and sketch were used to first plan angles and radii.
Large holes were drilled through the support structure to let rain and snow drain away. The freshly cut ends of the boards were stained to match the upper surface.
The inner pattern installation.
A very rewarding time in any patterned deck project.
The profile of the inner pattern is transferred to the outer boards to finish the deck platform.
A chop saw, files, an impact driver, a sliding bevel, a jig saw, a circular saw, and various clamps were most of the tools used to build this deck. Tools that most Do-It-Yourself homeowners already have and know how to use.
Patterns of this size can be seen from space!
A Google Earth view appears as if a giant tree dropped a leaf near our house.
